What are the verticle columns called in the periodic table?

The vertical parts of the periodic table are called groups.

I really don't have a clue. It seems that everyone thinks they're called groups I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking that they are called groups.

I know a little bit about the periodic table but not to much so I will go with everyone else because my brain hurts cause I had a hard day trying to do math and all.
